Benefits of Last Two Verses of Surah Baqarah

The last two verses or Surahs of Surah al Baqarah are also called as Amana Rasul. These verses are 285 - 286 of Surah Baqarah second chapter of Holy Quran. These two verses are most important verses of the Quran.

“The Messenger (Muhammad ) believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allâh, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. They say, “We make no distinction between one another of His Messengers” – and they say, “We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your Forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all).” (Al-Baqarah 2:285)

Allah burdens not a person beyond his scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned. “Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maulâ (Patron, Supporter and Protector) and give us victory over the disbelieving people.” (Al-Baqarah 2:286)

  • It is narrated by Abu Masood that the Prophet (PBUH) said,

  • “Whoever recites the two verses at the end of Surat-ul-Baqarah in the night, they will suffice him.” (Bukhari)

  • “I was given the last two verses from Surat-ul-Baqarah from the treasure that is just beneath the Throne that was not given to a Prophet before me.”

  •  It is also Narrated by Ibn Mas’ood (radiyallaahu ‘anhu), he heard the Prophet saying:

“Whoever recites the two verses at the end of Sooratul-Baqarah in the night, they will suffice him.” (Bukhaaree 5009, Muslim 808)

According to this hadith, it means that these verses are meant to protect a believer from the Shayatan at night. When the person recites these verses before sleeping, he/she is protecting himself/herself from the evil and despise acts of Shayatan. Not just he will be saved but will also be accredited with virtues and rewards.

In the tafsir of Ibn Kathir on these last two verses of Surah al Baqarah, he talked about the hadith of Ibn Masood which says: “While the Messenger of Allah was with Jibriel, he heard a noise from above. Jibril lifted his sight to the sky and said, ‘This is a door that was in the heavens being opened just now and it has never opened before.’ An angel descended through the door to the Prophet and said, `Receive the glad of two lights that you have been given and which no Prophet before you was given: the Opener of the Book (Al-Fatihah) and the last Ayat in Surat Al-Baqarah. You will not read a letter of them, but you will be granted its benefit.’” (Muslim).

The Messenger of Allah  said, “Recite the Quran, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for its reciters.

So from above Hadith it is clear that we should commit these two verses to memory, recite them every night, and use them as a means of gaining rewards from the Almighty.
